Mission Statement
Conversation Café is committed to creating a dynamic platform where people from all walks of life can come together to discuss and understand pressing socio-political issues. By facilitating structured and accessible conversations, we aim to broaden public discourse, bridge diverse perspectives, encourage critical thinking, and empower youth to contribute to the country’s long-term prosperity.
What is Conversation Café
Conversation Café is an initiative dedicated to engaging citizens of Sri Lanka in meaningful dialogue about contemporary socio-political issues. We seek to create a space where diverse voices are welcome to discuss and debate key topics related to democracy, governance reforms, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
Conversation Café is supported by USAID under their SL Engage program focused on working with youth and urban populations to foster constructive civic engagement. This program primarily seeks to promote constructive civic engagement on themes related to democracy, political and governance reforms, and the rights and responsibilities of citizens.
By creating an open and inclusive environment, we ensure that participants feel heard, valued, and motivated to contribute their ideas and insights. Each session not only addresses current issues but also provides a unique opportunity for youth to collectively envision the future they desire for their country. Participants engage with experts from diverse fields, including governance, activism, environmental conservation, digitalization, sustainability, human rights, and the creative arts, to explore policy priorities and identify practical pathways forward.
Beyond the meaningful conversations, Conversation Café fosters community and collaboration by offering valuable networking opportunities. These networking sessions encourage participants to connect with like-minded individuals and establish relationships that may inspire and drive future endeavors, ranging from civic projects, professional aspirations, to creative collaborations.
At Conversation Café, we believe that change begins with conversation—bridging perspectives and sparking progress, one meaningful dialogue and connection at a time.
About the Organizers
Conversation Café is organized by a loose collective of three like-minded individuals united by a passion for the creative arts and a commitment to addressing contemporary socio-political issues in Sri Lanka. We are nonpartisan and hold no allegiance to any specific political ideology. Instead, we see ourselves as deeply concerned citizens dedicated to fostering meaningful change.
Our collective champions human dignity, civil liberties, and democratic values. We advocate for transparent governance, accountable security institutions, and the fundamental right to free expression. We embrace diversity and equal opportunity for all members of society. We are dedicated to fostering economic prosperity and sustainable development through ethical leadership and institutional integrity. We believe in empowering citizens with knowledge and awareness to actively participate in building a more transparent and equitable society and promote a culture of accountability and responsible citizenship.
As individuals we believe that actions, no matter how small, can drive meaningful change and we hope to motivate a collective sense of responsibility and inspire efforts that make a lasting difference.
